Look beyond the presentation
A portfolio is a starting point. Before selecting a partner, ask practical questions about how the work will be developed, delivered and used.
1. Relevant experience
Look for work in comparable industries and ask to see implemented projects, not only visualisations.
2. A clear process
Understand how research, strategy, design and implementation connect, and where your team will be involved.
3. The working team
Establish who will lead and execute the project, whether the team remains consistent and whether any work is outsourced.
4. Defined deliverables
Clarify application lists, source files, revision arrangements and ownership in the project agreement.
5. Transparent pricing
Ask for a breakdown linked to scope and depth of work so that competing proposals can be compared meaningfully.
6. Implementation capability
For packaging, discuss print, materials and sampling. For spaces, discuss materials and coordination with delivery teams.
7. Communication and support
Agree communication frequency, review stages, revision turnaround and the boundaries of follow-up support.
Connect style with business needs
Ask what research and strategic reasoning sit behind the work. A strong partnership combines an understanding of your business with the ability to express it through design.
